Plaza Art Fair

Some of you may know that I broke a favorite mug that I bought at the Brookside Art Fair in the Spring. Luckily, the artist I bought it from was at this weekend's Plaza Art Fair. I sought her out, but my mug wasn't there. She changed up her mugs a little. I was devastated, but Rachel (the artist) came to my rescue. She offered to remake my mug! She drew it up and it will be arriving on my doorstep sometime in the near future.
Here I am with artist Rachel Akin. She has come very beautiful ceramics. Check her out here!

Of course there was plenty of other great art. And Lisa and I enjoyed checking it all out and eating at one of by new favorites, Blanc Burger.

When my new mug arrives I will be very careful it in the hope that I will have it much longer than the last one. Thanks Rachel for being so kind and remaking my mug. I can't wait for it to get here!

Completed Still Life

The first still life project is complete. With the exception of a few special friends I think they turned out pretty good. Here is the wall outside my classroom. And below are a few gems.

The next project is already underway. We are practicing three different ways of shading and using ballpoint pens instead of pencils. I have great hopes for these drawings and will keep you posted on how they turn out.

OLIVIA!

Isn't she too cute! This is Olivia and I like to claim her as my own niece. She is the daughter of my friends Carrie and Mark. Olivia is a hit wherever she goes. Here she is dressed up for a wedding. Even though she doesn't have hair or teeth I think she is just the best!

The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games

Victoria has been talking about this one since last year. It was huge at the middle schools. So I finally got my hands on a copy and couldn't put it down. I read all Sunday afternoon. It is a crazy story about what used to be North America and these small cities that are under control of the capitol. The keep the cities in line they randomly choose a boy and girl from each city to fight to the death. Yes, I know it sounds strange, but it is really interesting.

This young adult literature is addictive and there are two more books in the series. I have to get my hands on the next book! If you are looking for a fast read this would be a good book to pick up.

Mail Call!

Today I got two great envelope surprises in my mailbox today. The first was from Mary and some pictures from fun times together. Look at how small Olivia is in that picture with Pierce and me in the foreground! So fun! Thanks Mary!

The next package was laugh out loud funny. Here is an overview of everything included.

Halloween bags, plastic spiders, a spider ring, funny wreath magnet, crayola paper, a red mask, a whole bags of white plastic baskets, and some strange doll heads on sticks. Here is a close up of the doll heads.

I got an email asking what I was planning with the heads, but I had already put them to good use.
Here she is taped to an easel keeping an eye on one of my sixth hour students, Charlie. Kay said it looked like it had a secret nanny cam. (Maybe it does, and Lisa is watching every move we make!)

Surprise!

My friend Sarah is pregnant and due in January. On Monday she went to the doctor to find out what she is having. She asked if I would like to find out via text or interschool mail. Which one did I choose? Interschool mail of course! I had to avoid facebook and talking with friends who already knew, but it was worth it. Today during third hour I walked down the halls wondering if the mail had arrived. It had! I opened the envelope with anticipation and found this...

Can you guess? She even had his name written on the cup. I think the fact that I could wait for this surprise gives me confidence that when I decide to have a baby I can wait until he/she arrives. I love a good surprise!

Congratulations Sarah! You will be a great mom!
